Trainpool Program

Subsidy for Commuters—Enrollment and monthly checks due by the 10 th of the month!

Commuting Faculty, Staff, Undergraduate and Graduate Students don't drive alone to Davis when you can relax on a train. If you live in the Bay Area or Placer County the Trainpool is designed just for you!

The Trainpool Program, administered through Transportation and Parking Services, is available to all eligible members of the campus community commuting to Davis and able to ride on the Capitol Corridor . Enrolled participants receive a subsidy of $18 per month, access to emergency rides home, two days/per month of courtesy parking permits (for days when riding the train is not possible) and for eligible employees, participation in the Pretax/Payroll Deduction Program (providing additional cost savings).

How does this work? Trainpool members buy $110 from TAPS for $18 less than face value towards the purchase of an Amtrak pass. Amtrak passes are sold at staffed Amtrak stations. In all cases additional money will be needed to purchase the pass. After initially enrolling in the program, CommuterCheck can be ordered from TAPS with an order form and check for $92 (made payable to UC Regents ). This needs to be mailed to TAPS and received no later than the 10th of the month. Eligible employees may participate in the Pretax/Payroll Deduction Program by enrolling by the 10th of the month for participation starting the following month . All CommuterCheck and courtesy parking permits will be mailed to the enrolled member's home or campus address prior to the beginning of the next month if a Waiver Form has been completed. CommuterCheck can also be picked up at either the TAPS Office or the Cashier's Office in Dutton Hall with prior arrangement.

Amtrak provides up to 24 weekday trips to and from downtown Davis from various locations along the Capitol Corridor route. Service is available from:

Emergency Ride Home

Enrolled Trainpool members have access to Emergency Ride Home (ERH) services for unexpected emergencies. In the event that an emergency situation develops and other transportation options are not feasible, TAPS will do its best to provide a ride home (or to the commute starting point). ERH services are available Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. However, rides and/or services may not always be immediately available.

Emergency situations include illness, emergencies at home, or childcare issues at daycare or school. Rides are not provided for the following reasons: working overtime, night classes, missed train, train failure or late arrival, medical appointments, business travel, job related injuries, personal errands, or natural disasters. Call (530) 752-8277 (TAPS), for more information or to request a ride.

Participation in the ERH is monitored. Excessive use may result in a denied ride.
