Carpool Program |
|
|---|
The University of California, Davis Carpool Parking Program is administered through the Transportation and Parking Services (TAPS) Office. The program is open to all faculty, staff, and intercity commuting students of UC Davis.
The goal of the TAPS Alternative Transportation Program is to reduce the number of employee and student single occupant vehicles coming to campus. We are committed to helping improve air quality and traffic congestion in our area. Participants in carpools promote these goals and commitments. Carpooling can also benefit individual carpool members by helping to save money (parking, gas, and vehicle wear and tear), reduce commute stress and eliminate daily parking hassles.
Newly forming carpools should print out a copy of the carpool application and bring the completed form into TAPS. The form is also available at the TAPS office or by mail upon request. To request a form, contact the TAPS Alternative Transportation Coordinator at (530) 752-MILE (6453) or by e-mail. Assistance is also available from local rideshare agencies for individuals looking for others with whom to share the ride.
Those enrolling in the Carpool Parking Program should be familiar with all rules and regulations pertaining to UC Davis carpool policy before signing a Carpool Application.
A registered UC Davis carpool consists of two or more people (faculty/staff/student) living off campus and sharing one car on the majority of their commute trips to campus. Carpool members must be commuting to the campus from the same direction. *Students must live outside of the Davis/El Macero area to participate in a registered carpool. A Carpool Application for the entire carpool must be completed. A Payroll Deduction Authorization form must also be submitted for any faculty or staff member currently on payroll deduction and wishing to change the type of permit previously held or to enroll in payroll deduction. Carpool permits must be purchased for a minimum of one academic Quarter. Undergraduates may only register for one academic Quarter at a time.
Members of a registered carpool are responsible for knowing and adhering to the following regulations governing participation. Knowing these guidelines will help carpool participants avoid receiving a parking citation on the UC Davis campus. If, after reviewing this information there are further questions, please call the TAPS Alternative Transportation Coordinator at (530) 752-MILE (6453) or e-mail:

Carpool parking rates are PER EACH CARPOOL MEMBER. Each carpool will be assigned one carpool (CP) permit which is valid in A or C lots as indicated on the permit. Multi-Year permits should be clearly displayed on the driver’s side dash. Annual and Quarter hangtag permits should be placed on the rearview mirror with the permit type facing the windshield. Members interested in returning to campus after 5 p.m. may use their Temporary Pool Parking Permit (TC) without filling in the date. Only the assigned carpool permit provides access to the reserved carpool spaces (as applicable).
A Temporary Pool Parking Permit is assigned to each carpool member. Each complimentary permit will have 24 uses on it and will be pro-rated based upon the number of months enrolled in the program. These permits are non-transferable and are for use on days when pooling to campus is not feasible. They are not valid in reserved carpool spaces.
There are two types of TC Parking Permits: TCA Parking Permits are valid in “A” Lots and TCC Parking Permits are valid in “C” Lots. Please familiarize yourself with the following restrictions regarding use of TC permits.
Temporary Pool Parking Permits are VALID:Mailing:
During TAPS annual permit renewal (June –July 1), Temporary Pool Parking Permits will be mailed
to each CP member from TAPS. If a participant does not receive their TC permit by July 1, they should
contact the TAPS Office to report the TC as lost. At that time a new TC permit will be issued at no
additional cost. TCA’s and TCC’s reported lost or stolen after July 30, will be pro-rated based
upon the number of months remaining for the carpool and charged at half the daily parking rate per
day. Only one TCA or TCC will be replaced per year (or quarter) per person. TC parking permits
should be treated like cash.

Carpools may request up to two reserved carpool parking spaces in the lot(s) of their choice. Every attempt is made to provide reserved spaces as requested. Certain lots, however, have limited carpool parking. Therefore, carpool parking in these lots will be on a first-come, first-parked basis. TAPS requests carpool members working or attending courses in the same area of campus to choose only one lot on their Carpool Application. Additionally, members who would not use a reserved carpool parking space are requested to indicate this on the Application.
Spaces are reserved upon request for Annual pr Multi-Year carpools enrolling in the program through the end of the current fiscal year. (A fiscal year is July through June.)
Carpool spaces are reserved during the morning commute hours. Spaces that are not utilized by 9:30 a.m. in “A” and “C” lots are available to other permit holders. Carpools that need to move the vehicle after arriving on campus may park in any non-restricted “A” and/or “C” space depending on the type of CP permit held.
To report vehicles parked prior to the posted time in CP spaces without CP permits, please contact the TAPS Office at (530) 752-TAPS (before 9:30 a.m. for "A" and "C" lots.`
CP permits issued to campus carpool participants are not valid in reserved carpool parking spaces at UCDMC.
Enrolled Carpool members have access to Emergency Ride Home (ERH) services for unexpected emergencies. In the event that emergency situations develop and other transportation options are not feasible, TAPS will do its best to provide a ride home (or to commute starting point). ERH services are available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. However, rides and/or services may not always be immediately available.
Emergency situations include illness, emergencies at home, childcare issues at daycare or school or the carpool driver has left the rest of the carpool stranded. Stranded members should contact TAPS as early in the day as possible to make later arrangements. Rides are not provided for the following reasons: working overtime, night classes, medical appointments, business travel, job related injuries, personal errands, or natural disasters. Call (530) 752-8277 (TAPS) for more information or to request a ride.
Participation in the ERH is monitored. Excessive use may result in a denied ride.
