Bike Auction

In accordance with the California Civil Code, TAPS disposes of abandoned, unclaimed bicycles through publically-held auctions. We hold two "live" auctions annually, usually in mid-October and early May. In addition, we also periodically sell bicycles on eBay . The bikes sold through eBay are typically the lowest quality bikes in the poorest condition and they are sold in "lots" of several bikes each. Information about both kinds of auctions may be found below.

  • TERMS: Cash or check with proper I.D. only. All merchandise sold as is, where is.
  • BIKES: Over 350 abandoned and unclaimed bikes of many types, descriptions and conditions: cruisers, mountain bikes, road bikes, BMX, a few kids' bikes.

If you are planning on bidding on any on-line TAPS bike auction, please note the following information:

The winning bidder on any item(s) is responsible for picking up the merchandise within fifteen (15) calendar days of the closing date of the auction.

The University of California does not accept PayPal. Payment must be made at the time you come to pick up the item(s).

The University accepts cash, check or credit card (Visa or MasterCard) for payment. Please bring valid picture identification for any transaction.

You are required to remove all of the items sold as a lot. You may not leave individual bicycles or parts that you may not want. All lots and items must be removed from Transportation and Parking Services premises on the same day.

All items are sold "as is, where is". You are obligated to pay the bid price, plus any local and California sales tax, for the items.

You must contact us to arrange a time to pick up your merchandise. Our phone # is 530-752-2453 and our e-mail address is taps-bikeauction@ucdavis.edu. Our hours for auction merchandise pick up are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. We are closed on weekends and holidays.

Our office is located on the University of California, Davis campus. Directions are as follows:

From outside of Davis, take Interstate 80 towards Davis. Exit Highway 113 north. Exit "Hutchison Drive - University of California". You will be heading east on Hutchison Drive. Drive approximately one-half mile to the second traffic signal at the corner of Hutchison Drive and Dairy Road. On your left will be a six-level parking garage. Enter the parking garage and turn immediately left. There are 20-minute free parking spaces on the north side of first level. Park there and exit the garage where you drove in. Walk north on the path that you drove in on. Our office is the second building on the right (east) side of the path. Enter the lobby and tell one of our staff members you are there to pick up auction items.

Within Davis, go south on La Rue Road beginning at its intersection with Russell Boulevard. Turn left at Hutchison Drive, which is the second traffic signal after Russell Boulevard. After turning left you will see a six-level parking structure on your left at the next intersection (Dairy Road). Turn left at the signal and enter the parking garage. Go left to the 20-minute free parking spaces on the north side of first level. Park there and exit the garage where you drove in. Walk north on the path that you drove in on. Our office is the second building on the right (east) side of the path. Enter the lobby and tell one of our staff members you are there to pick up auction items.
