Transportation Services hosted a forum to discuss updates to its parking management system in 2023, which extends more flexibility and cheaper rates.

What we covered
  • Issuing departmental guest passes and purchasing event permits
    • The portal will make it easier for a designated department representative to purchase and assign permits to others (e.g., you enter their license plate), as well as check on whether the permit was used, and if not, reassign it. 
  • Purchasing monthly permits
  • Submitting appeals
    • The online interface is user friendly and will soon offer improved status updates for your appeals.
  • Updating your vehicles
    • You can add or remove approved vehicles from your permit. This only impacts those with a monthly permit. ParkMobile users should continue updating their vehicles through the app.
  • Purchasing contractor and vendor permits
    • Contractors and vendors can more easily purchase, assign and manage parking for their vehicles with a business need to access campus.
  • Starting the bike registration process
  • Managing personal information and fees
    • You can view and pay any outstanding fees or tickets.

  • Will the TS budget be released to the public?

  • What’s happening with bike impoundings?
  • Abandoned bicycles abatement continues throughout campus, with a focus on some of our major transportation hubs on campus in addition to helping coordinate construction activities. If the Transportation Services cannot locate the owner (usually via bicycle registration) and the bicycle is unclaimed after 90 days we put them up to auction online, usually holding an auction once a month.   • How do students join the Transportation Parking Administrative Advisory Committee?
  • Annually, the Provist's office sends a notice to the campus requesting applications for those interesting in joining the various committtees. You may also check with ASUCD.
  • There often not enough A parking spots. Allowing the new C+ will definitely make things worse. Is there a limited number of C+ permits issued?
  • We only add C+ spaces in the undersutilized A spaces. If A demand increases, we are prepared to roll back the C+ spaces.
  • Will tickets automatically be linked to our parking account or do you need the ticket number?
  • If the cited vehicle is tied to your account, the citation will be tied. You can always look up a citation by number.
  • Is there/will there ever be a monthly autopay option for LRPP? i.e. my credit card gets charged monthly for my permits?
  • The Transportation Services is looking into this process. Stay tuned
  • Can we still use the lilac DGP's until the new system is rolled out?
  • Yes. Until your department is transitioned to the online version, please contiue to use your passes.
  • Where can L zone lists be viewed?
  • L zones are available on Lot 2, Lot 30 and Lot 57
  • If someone has a disabled placard for their car, they still have to pay when parking in L/C/A lots and the short-term (eg 90 minute) areas, correct?
  • At this time, ADA placarded and plated vehicles may park in any non-reserved space on campus without payment.
  • Do you know when the anticipated roll out of event parking through ParkMobile will be?
  • The Transportation Services are working with the vendor to get this set up. Stay tuned!
  • Are we supposed to receive a reminder to pay for parking when we arrive on campus?
  • The Transportation Services hopes to have this functionality available soon. The Transportation Services is pushing the vendor to enable this ASAP. You can learn more about this notification at here.
  • Is there an effort to automate parking with readers at entry points along with a parking availability app?
  • The Transportation Services are planning on implemting this technology. Stay tuned!
  • I assist new employees with their Onboarding and that includes setting up ParkMobile. We've had some issues with getting new employees the affiliate rate in their first 1-3 days, and then we have to ask for refund codes. Is there a process I should follow to make sure they're going to get the staff affiliate rate on their first day? For these new employees, their UCD email/onboarding meeting was at least 2 weeks in advance. 
  • The Transportation Services is working with University IT on how DoTS can recieve the new hire information faster. The Transportation Services is also looking at workarounds.
  • Can you have two cars on your parking permit at the same time?
  • Yes, but they cannot both use the permit at the same time. This is a shared permit violation. A permit allows you to park one car at any one time.
  • Any discussion on limiting delivery trucks - ups, fedex, etc. to the core campus and rerouting deliveries through mail services for bike and ped safety?
  • Core access and safety are issues that we are working with campus leaders.
  • Does AIMS parking have an app option?
  • The AIMS parking site will adjust for smaller screens.
  • Why was the choice to pay hourly and not just the flat-rate removed last year? For those that only have an hour class and then leave, paying the full rate is not as beneficial.
  • Hourly rates are available on on payment machines located across campus.
  • Ramon noted that your are not covering your costs at this time. Who/what is paying the difference?
  • Transportation Services is in deficit and looking at long term plans to address this and return to a balanced budget.
  • When payroll deductions return will the daily affiliate parking remain?
  • Yes, that's the goal. The payroll deduction option will result in a payment card that can be used with ParkMobile or a browser option (such as paying for your LRPP/monthly option online).
  • Does the guest invite allow the guest park anywhere on campus. sometimes our guest has to move from lot to lot as part of a tour.
  • The DGP is valid in any A, C+, C, or L space on campus and they may park in different lots during the day.
  • Is it possible just pay the difference between C and A, if i need to move in the middle of the day? I work in different places throughout the day and sometimes don't know if i'll have to move
  • This is dificult to get set up technically. However, The Transportation Services is looking at workarounds.
  • Will the Causeway Connection start charging employees per trip in the Spring if the contract is being extended?
  • The Transportation Services is maintaining the subsidy through the next two years and thus there will be no change to the fare policy.
  • Is the hourly rate option still being considered at all for A lots (for example Lot 10 which has no payment machine)? I recall that hourly feature on the appl was being considered to be reactivated for 2023 as was mentioned at the previous forum? this relates to supporting Flex work and employees who come to work for half days or less.
  • “A” Zones are premium spaces reserved for Employees. Technology limitations prevent the creation of a separate hourly rate for A spaces that also limit employee access.
